Genres - Groups of fourth graders were presented with baskets holding nine books, each from a different genre. After a review of genres, these student groups were asked to sort the books into the nine genres discussed. After assigning a genre to each book in their basket, students will present their matches and explain why they feel the books fit into the genres selected.
State/Place of Interest Research - Students selected a state and then selected a place of interest within that state to research. The information they are gathering will be used to develop a travel plan for visiting that place. Students will create a tri-fold brochure to highlight the most important aspects of their place of interest, including the location, history, things to see, and the best way to travel to their place.
